20. ADHD: THINGS PARENTS WORRY ABOUT MOST
I’m going to start a series of newsletters on different issues that we as parents of ADHD children worry about the most. This list has been gleaned from my own list of worries and a lot of research on the internet. I’m sure it is not a complete list, but I think it probably represents the most significant issues. If you have other issues you would like to add, please just post them to me and I’ll try to get to them. The actual series starts with the next issue of the newsletter.

Academic Performance and School Inconsistency
Struggles with homework, tests, organization, and staying on grade level.

Emotional Regulation and Meltdowns
Explosive reactions, difficulty calming down, emotional sensitivity.

Low Self-esteem
Negative self-talk, internalizing failure, comparing themselves to peers.

Social Skills and Peer Rejection
Trouble reading social cues, interrupting, being “too much,” loneliness.

Executive Functioning Weaknesses
Time blindness, planning, organization, task initiation, follow-through.

Distraction and Hyperfocus
Inability to stay on task or getting stuck too deeply on one task.

Sleep Problems
Difficulty falling asleep, inconsistent sleep routines impacting behavior.

Screen Time Battles
Regulating gaming, device obsession, conflicts around limits.

Impulsivity and Risk-taking
Acting without thinking, behavior that creates safety or discipline issues.

Long-term Independence
Concerns about college readiness, future employment, and functioning as adults.
